Biography
Wollongong Women’s Information Service (WWIS) provides information about, and referral to a wide range of support services across the 3 LGAs of the Illawarra. We provide information and referral by telephone, face to face, via email and through our website.
We provide assistance and support to women in the Illawarra who are, or have been, victims of domestic and family violence and women who are experiencing isolation, marginalisation, disadvantage and other issues that affect their lives.
We offer women a range of education and support programs as well as resources and facilities for women, including access to computers, internet, fax, photocopier and access to a meeting space for meetings, workshops and activities free of charge.
We are a community based organisation run by women for women in the Illawarra.
Illawarra Women’s Domestic Violence Court Advocacy Service. Assisting women and children who are or have been experiencing domestic violence to obtain effective legal protection through applications for Apprehended Domestic Violence Orders (ADVOs).•Support and advocacy services for women and children seeking help and information about getting protection from the court from domestic violence. Court advocacy support is available on AVO list days at Wollongong, Port Kembla, Albion Park and Kiama local courts for women seeking an ADVO. Support at hearings is also provided where possible. Workers are available from Aboriginal and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse backgrounds
•Free legal representation is available at court for women seeking private ADVO’s who are eligible for legal aid and are existing clients of the Court Advocacy Service. Legal advice is also available at court for women with Police initiated ADVO’s on matters such as family law, child support, and property, upon referral from the Court Advocacy Service
